David Spencer
Ambassador for APEC to Australia, Chair of the APEC Senior Officials' Meeting
David is a senior career officer with the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade. Prior to his current appointment as Ambassador for APEC to Australia, he was Special Representative at the Hong Kong WTO Ministerial Meeting. He has also served as Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the WTO (2001-2005), Deputy Chief of Mission at the Australian Embassy in Washington (1993-96), High Commissioner to Canada (1991-93), Senior Trade Commissioner in Hong Kong (1986-89), Counsellor at the Australian Embassy in Tokyo (1980-84), and Counsellor to the Australian Delegation at the General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade (GATT) Multilateral Trade Negotiations in Geneva (1973-78).
